Summers are made for vacations and road trips! Whether you get away to visit family or travel to your favorite bed and breakfast for the weekend, road trips are necessary. I personally use that time to escape our daily routine and recharge.
Eating options can be somewhat of a challenge or the big question while on the road. Why not change it up a bit and do something out of the ordinary and pack a road trip picnic basket. Today I am sharing a few essentials like those cute Coca-Cola Share a Song cans to make your picnic adventure spectacular.
Essential 1: Great Music
The key to road trip survival is great music! Before we set out on our journey, I take some time to compile an epic playlist that includes everyone’s favorite tunes. Speaking of tunes? Have you seen the “Share a Coke and a Song” cans. Aren’t they fun? I love reading the fun lyrics printed on the cans. They remind me of my favorite songs and memories with my family!
Essential 2: A Picnic Basket
Call me a traditionalist but, it’s not a picnic unless a basket is present. You will not be able to include everything inside, however use it to include fun paper goods such as plates, straws, cups, napkins. You get it… the essentials. I purchased this basket years ago and I’m still in love with it.
Essential 3: Food and Drink Displays
Take a look around your home for items that can be used to display food and drinks during your picnic. Search for small baskets, round trays, and mason jars. Find items that are practical and make sense. Always do a survey of your home inventory before going shopping. Use trays to create a mini drink station. Sparkling water is always fun.
We found a 35-pack of Coca Cola at our local Sam’s Club, which was perfect for our road trip!
Essential 4: Food Storage Containers
Individual servings are perfect for picnics. It helps save time and is easier to handle. Sandwiches and wraps can be stored in paper treat bags by cutting a slit on the outside for easy access. I used clear 8 oz. cups to store a berry mix and an 16 oz. clear cup + lid to store my salad in a cup! Make your own salad cups by adding in fresh spinach, toppings of your choice, and croutons. When you are ready to enjoy, simply add in your desired amount of dressing, place the lid back on and shake!
Essential 5: Location. Location. Location.
Before leaving on your trip, be sure to do some research ahead of time local parks, camping site, or even local natural attractions such as lakes! Find a shaded area on a tree or near the water. We love the water so naturally you can find us lake side. No luck searching before hand? Don’t worry, the best locations are the ‘hidden gems” that you stumble upon.
I hope this post has inspired you to take your meal time on the road. Don’t forget to grab your “Share a Coke” cans and compile your favorite tunes take along with you. Follow us along over on Instagram for more peeks of our Summer adventures.
